Sex Worker Visions II – opening May 1

April 30th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

Metro ran a really nice piece today about my art show, with a focus on the dildo painting event. You can check it out here. The actual paper also has a cute lil’ pic of me. Yesterday afternoon I did most of the installation for the show, which in addition to hanging art on the […]

Stuff is real

April 30th, 2007 at 1:23 am

The way I propel my life forward at a ridiculous pace, punctuated by the completion of projects with only time to half-pat myself on the back – it’s bad. I swear, I am stopping that after my art show opens this week. Lately my accomplishments have felt pretty surreal – in the, “yeah yeah that’s […]

Four quick things

April 25th, 2007 at 8:59 am

1. After a week of crying and feeling generally worthless and incapable, I finished my MA thesis. It’s being printed today and turned in tomorrow. The major hurdle is over, and now its a few short weeks until the master’s degree chapter of my life is behind me. Weird, but awesome. 2. Today is my […]

A Rural Dr. Sketchy

April 23rd, 2007 at 10:58 am

Yesterday Molly Crabapple and I hit the road and headed to the wilds of western Massachusetts, where we got elaborately lost in search of gas and were very close to being stranded because everything is so far apart there. We left NYC around noon so we’d arrive early at the Dream Away Lodge, but ended […]

How to be an ally to sex workers*

April 18th, 2007 at 2:15 am

*or other populations that are struggling with human rights issues, with whom you do not identify but with whom you sympathize When I send out calls for submission to $pread and associated events and projects, I always state that I am primarily looking for work from people who are current or former sex workers. Typically, […]

Creative ho energy

April 15th, 2007 at 7:05 pm

This afternoon a group of New York City-based sex workers gathered at Arena Studios, the co-sponsor of Sex Worker Visions II, the second annual show of sex workers’ art that I’m curating. New online sex toy shop Vibrator.com generously provided us with a bag full of dildos for us to defile in the name of […]

Challenging the canon

April 10th, 2007 at 10:19 pm

Amber and Rusty are in town for PodCamp NYC and have been staying with me, so yesterday I took the day off (which, other than my few days of being in bed with a fever a few weeks ago, is the first day off I’ve had since the day after the Bi Apple release party). […]

The Bi Apple: Reviewed

April 3rd, 2007 at 11:45 pm

Is it me or has it been quiet around here? Oh, right, its definitely me. Being that its my blog, and I haven’t been writing it. Sometimes a girl’s gotta write a master’s thesis, edit a magazine, curate an art show and do a final round of copyediting on her book, ya know? Though not […]

Decorate-A-Dildo with $pread

April 1st, 2007 at 9:36 pm

$pread magazine’s second annual Sex Worker Visions opens in NYC at Arena Studios on May 1, and for those whose skills fall short of fine art it includes an arts-and-crafts element . On Sunday, April 15 from 1-3 pm at Arena Studios (407 Broome St, Suite 7A) we will be painting, decorating and possibly mutilating dildos, provided by our event sponsor Vibrator.com, for inclusion in the opening night festivities. So, if you’re a current or former sex worker and this sounds like fun, join us!
