AEE 2008: Day 5 – The Grand Finale

I am at the airport, writing a last minute blog post before I get on the plane and head back to NYC and holy fuck, I cannot wait to get out of Las Vegas. I hate this place with a white hot passion that starts out as an ironic distaste upon arrival and erodes into cranky loathing and disappointment in America pretty rapidly.

All told, I had a decent time – but that’s because AEE is like a big porno family reunion, and I got to hang out with people I like and meet new folks that get it. But then there’s the rest of the industry – most of it, really, which makes me question what the fuck I’m doing in this business.

I went to my first AVN Awards Show – the 25th Anniversary of the event – and it was ridiculous, overproduced, and fucked up all at once. You can layer the heavy makeup of fancy production values and a spot on Showtime onto these awards, but the essence of the porno biz shines through. For example: in one of the major title cards on the jumbotrons, the word “categories” was spelled “catagories.” Awesome.
